Week 22
A peak at Eli and Ivy working on their math today. Eli started using the Abacus and I found that he really likes it and makes division more fun for him! Yay! He's good at math, but he finds it to be a bit boring (or something... not sure). Ivy didn't do a lot of her own math this week, but sat with Emmitt and I when we did his math. She really likes the colorful activities in Emmitt's book and wishing hers was a little more that way. Emmitt worked on writing his numbers 1-10. He's getting the hang of most of them.
Our favorite way to do lunch is using these muffin trays and fill them up with a variety of items. I really like this because it helps me focus on getting more veggies cut up and the kids eat them too! Eli and Ivy found a leftover bottle of sparkling cider from New Years, hence the fancy glasses LOL!!!
For History, we are actually reading Leif the Lucky again, but we are studying it more in-depth this time and adding him to our timeline. I'm using the Beautiful Feet Book Early American History set so we're using that as our guide. Here's the beginning of our History timeline and one of the kids' notebooks -
For Language Arts - Eli worked on a lot of spelling words, dictation, and learning the "oor" words. He's pretty good at them already, but a few of them were knew. Ivy worked on her All About Reading and her book The Reading Lessons. I've learned she does really well when I have her read the words I know she knows and then I read the harder words that she's learning. It works good because if I have her work really hard to sound out every new word, she shuts down really fast and we get to tears and I'd prefer to have her keep reading longer with me. She's loving her cursive still. Emmitt did great this week in his classes and is retaining sounds and letters.
Our Commonwealth has really been fantastic this semester! The classes and teachers are just awesome! Eli and Ivy are doing a class on the Five Love Languages and then the Great Brain, with an emphasis on emotional health. I'm excited for them to learn this information and I pray they retain a lot of it. Emmitt and Erik had a class on insects and their second class was about art. They were both fabulous classes as well! I'm so grateful for all of their awesome teachers (and glad I can sit back and learn and not have to teach this semester LOL)!
