Week 21

We had a great week this past week!

Eli and Emmitt were the only ones to attend our Commonwealth since Ivy has not been feeling good. Eli's first class they are learning about the Five Love Languages and in his second class, they're learning about the brain and how emotions and different things are triggered (or something like that haha)! 

Emmitt's classes at the Commonwealth were Science and Art.  They learned about Matter... Solid, Liquid, gas. Then, in his second class, they focused on art and made a color wheel.


Math - Eli continued working on multiplication and division.  Ivy is working on adding larger numbers; however, I ordered flashcards so she can master her small additions better.  Hopefully we can get this a little bit more solid for her.  Emmitt mainly played math games (we all played some games together).  Mainly UNO, which is Emmitt's favorite right now.

Language Arts - Eli started read a book by Roald Dahl "The Twits" along with listening to his Audio Books (currently Harry Potter).  He practiced his handwriting, which is cursive.  He really struggles at cursive, but I'm hoping it'll start clicking more.  He also started reading "The Mysterious Benedict Society" with me.  He's listened to the whole series like three times so we're going to read it together and rotate reading every other page.  Ivy did her reading lessons.  We are on lesson 28 and she's definitely struggling with these lessons more.  We are also using her Reading Lessons (an actual book with 20 lessons) and we are reading a lot together. She take off with cursive this week.  I showed her how to write her name and she was so excited!!  She had me show her different words and she loved it!!  It was exciting to see her enjoy it so much!  Emmitt worked on his language arts book and practiced vowels and sounding out new letters and practiced three letter words (sat, hat, cat, etc.)

History - We studied Christopher Columbus this week.  We read a really good book about him and then had a discussion.  We created a History timeline, but still need to add his picture to it.

Tech - Eli, Ivy and Emmitt all worked on their Tinker and Kiwi crates this week.  They made cute bird thingy's (LOL... I have to go look up what they're called).

PE - We went on a few walks this week to get outside.  The weather warmed up just slightly so it was nice to get outside.  We decided to end our gym class as a family so I've got to request a change to the kids' PE classes.  We are going to focus on getting up every morning and go to the gym together at 8:30 and the kids can practice shooting hoops while I walk laps.  Ivy and Emmitt also want to continue swim lessons so we are going to get this started again in the next week or two.

Week 25

Math - Eli worked on his math every day this week.  He's become more independent with his math and gets it done first thing in the morning as part of his morning routine.  He also worked on his division flashcards with me.  He does really good with his math.  Ivy worked on her math pages this week.  She's working on adding multiple digit numbers like 45+13=.  It's pretty easy for her.  She still writes her 6's and 5's backwards a lot, but I'm sure that'll come with time.  Emmitt worked on his numbers 1-10... he's getting better at writing them.  We all played UNO a few times. Week 37

Eli's math is coming along great!  He has 12 lessons to go in his math book and his doing great!  He already knows multiplication but the musical multiplication program I got for him is really helping him get to where he can say the answers faster.  He wrote quite a few stories this week and did really well.  He's still reading "A Yard for John" with me... we're progressing slower then I'd like, but hopefully this week or next he'll be done. Ivy got a couple of math lessons done and is also progressing well with musical multiplication.  She has 5 more lessons in her Reading Lessons so hopefully we can wrap up this book in the next 2 weeks.  She did a lot more dictation this week which is so good for her confidence! She's mainly done copywork in the past but dictation is really good for her to practice her spelling.   Emmitt has one lesson left in his language arts.  He's also been doing the musical multiplication with his siblings (h...

Week 33-34

We got to go do a super fun Easter Egg hunt that our good friends the Shipp's do every year!  My kids walk away with so much candy and fun stuff!!  It's definitely a highlight of the year!   We also got new baby ducks and 6 baby chicks so we've been having lots of fun taking care of them.  The ducks have been living in our bathtub for a couple of weeks and we moved them out to the chicken's house this weekend.  They seem to be doing good out there with a heat lamp.  Everyone has been helping, which is great!!  It's nice to have the kids know what to do and be able to go check water and food.  We already get about 4-6 eggs per day from our hens so it'll be fun to be getting more when our baby chicks are bigger (still another 4-5 months away).
