Week 24

This was a fun week! Math -  Eli's working on fractions in his math book and we also worked on his multiplication flashcards.  He's learning his bigger number multiplication's also (although smaller numbers like 12x12).  He knows how to do them, we'll just continue practicing so he's quicker at them.  Ivy is working on addition and adding larger numbers.  She worked on her flashcards this week and her place values.  Emmitt worked on his math book and practiced writing 1-10. Language Arts - Eli worked on handwriting, spelling words and dictation this week.  He's also reading another Roald Dahl book.  I went ahead and ordered him the Level 4 of his current curriculum which should arrive next week.  He's in Level 3 right now, but it's drudgery and after talking to a friend whose son just finished Level 3, she said to just stop and put him straight in level 4.  She said level 4 is SO much better then level 3 as the curriculum designer to...

Week 23

Math - This week for math Eli and Ivy worked on lots of Flashcards.  Eli did multiplication and Ivy worked on addition.  They both do really good and it's helping me see where they have the most difficulty.  They both also did some pages in their workbooks.  Emmitt only played math games this week... UNO and we're teaching him Yahtzee. Language Arts - We are reading Witches as our read aloud book, which is quite entertaining.  Ivy, Emmitt and Erik also really love the UsBorne books "Very First Reading Library" so we read from those quite often!  Ivy is working on her reading lessons, flashcards and handwriting.  We're really focusing on her reading every night for at least 20 minutes.  She sort of maxes out at 15 minutes right now so I'll read to her the last 5 or else we rotate pages.  I'm seeing her confidence boost since we've been more focused on her personal nighttime reading along with her daily lesson.  Eli has been reading "The...

Week 22

A peak at Eli and Ivy working on their math today.  Eli started using the Abacus and I found that he really likes it and makes division more fun for him!  Yay!  He's good at math, but he finds it to be a bit boring (or something... not sure).  Ivy didn't do a lot of her own math this week, but sat with Emmitt and I when we did his math.  She really likes the colorful activities in Emmitt's book and wishing hers was a little more that way.  Emmitt worked on writing his numbers 1-10.  He's getting the hang of most of them. Our favorite way to do lunch is using these muffin trays and fill them up with a variety of items.  I really like this because it helps me focus on getting more veggies cut up and the kids eat them too!  Eli and Ivy found a leftover bottle of sparkling cider from New Years, hence the fancy glasses LOL!!! For History, we are actually reading Leif the Lucky again, but we are studying it more in-depth this time and addi...

Week 21

We had a great week this past week! Eli and Emmitt were the only ones to attend our Commonwealth since Ivy has not been feeling good. Eli's first class they are learning about the Five Love Languages and in his second class, they're learning about the brain and how emotions and different things are triggered (or something like that haha)!  Emmitt's classes at the Commonwealth were Science and Art.  They learned about Matter... Solid, Liquid, gas. Then, in his second class, they focused on art and made a color wheel. Math - Eli continued working on multiplication and division.  Ivy is working on adding larger numbers; however, I ordered flashcards so she can master her small additions better.  Hopefully we can get this a little bit more solid for her.  Emmitt mainly played math games (we all played some games together).  Mainly UNO, which is Emmitt's favorite right now. Language Arts - Eli started read a book by Roald Dahl "The Twits" alon...

We had a wonderful Christmas holiday!!  On Christmas Eve, we had some of my family over for a little dinner.  The kids then opened their pajamas and got changed and then performed the Nativity!  It was nice to have my brother Dan and his wife Emilee here, my sisters Lana and Emma and my brother John.  Also, my parents and my in-laws spent New Years Eve with us.
