Week 9
We had a pretty full week this week with Ivy and Emmitt continuing their swim lessons! They are doing so great at swimming!! I'm so excited for them!
Language Arts -
Eli worked on his handwriting, dictation and worked on narration as well. We read together the Lion and the Mouse and Eli had to record himself retelling the story. He really liked this activity, which didn't surprise me since he's such a communicator ;). Ivy worked on her All about Reading and her handwriting. She completed lessons 17&18 this week - she did lesson 18 twice, but I switched it up the second time. Emmitt played a lot of Starfall this week and did some letter practice and picture finds in his Kindergarten book.
Math -
Eli worked on adding and subtracting large numbers this week and on rounding numbers. He doesn't care too much for math, but he does a good job. I'm looking into playing more math games with him and the other kids to make math a bit more exciting. Ivy continued writing numbers this week and getting familiar with larger numbers 1-100. We used the Place Value Village a bit. Emmitt worked on counting 1-15.
History -
We continued with music history this week and studied about Arturo Toscanini, the great Conductor. I loved this lesson because we discussed how he had prepared himself so well and worked really hard (memorized the entire Symphony) so when the time came for him to do something more, he was prepared and able to step up! We watched a three year old boy pretending to conduct a symphony and it was so cute!!! All the kids were laughing and then they all pretended to conduct a symphony which was super cute (wish I had a picture).
Gym -
Gym was great this week for the kids. Dirk had to miss so I took the kids alone and little Zeke was sick so I mainly sat on the couch with Zeke and Erik while Eli, Ivy and Emmitt did gym. They did the opening stretches, handstands, etc and then they practiced cartwheels and some front and back rolls. Then they did different tricks on the trampoline. Ivy is really close to getting her back flip on the trampoline and Eli and Emmitt just worked on their back flips. They all worked on cherry drops off the bar.
Tech -
Since the kids' Kiwi Crates were focused primarily on the Solar System, they all watched videos on planets and the Solar System. There are some really fun videos on Youtube. Eli's Tinker Crate is creating a Planetarium. He got started on it this week, but has more to go next week.
Erik got his first Koala Crate this week and made a rainbow cloud pillow -
